| Wands | Piercing heavy attacks that interrupt weaker enemies, plus Aerial and Evasion attacks, improved targeting and explosive-barrel targeting. |
| Archery | Three new Eternal arrows (Fire, Shock, Bone); all Eternal arrows are now upgradeable. New skills: Puncture, Barrage, Survival Instinct. |
| Skills | 8 new skills and a full skill tree reset โ re-spend your points. |
| New biome | Cinder's Cradle opens the northern edge of Embervale: a lava-scarred wasteland beneath floating islands raised by the Ancients, with Shroud tendrils between them. It adds 12 Shroud Roots, while newly accessible outskirts in other biomes add 6 more. Two new Hollow Halls open in the Albaneve Summits and the Veilwater Basin. |
| Story | The current Embervale story reaches its conclusion. Main quests return players to earlier regions, including structures that were previously inaccessible. The Shroud and the Fell remain as threats. |
| Progression | Player level cap 50, equipment level 55, and a new crafting tier covering gear, tools, food, arrows, spells and base-building items. A new survivor focused on Ancient knowledge and recipes joins your settlement. |
| Enemies | Cinder's Cradle introduces a new faction with 14 enemy types. Including additions to existing factions, 1.0 brings 37 new enemy types and variants, some of them heavy or elite. |
| Building | Sparkworks: a logic system wiring levers, pressure plates and triggers to doors, trapdoors, traps, lightning, released water and enemy spawns. Builders also get a free-flying build mode, and storage chests can be upgraded without emptying them first. |
| Adventure Sharing | Supports player-made dungeons and mini-games; browse Popular Adventures, filter by tags, use Share Codes, subscribe to favourites. |
| Balance | Mana costs and cast times re-tuned against spell damage and usability; enemy elemental weaknesses reworked. |
| Updraft | A setting lets you choose the original instant version or the newer version with a charge time. |
| Character | New character proportions as an appearance option; existing characters can update their look through Elio Ricci. |
| Fishing | Bait primarily attracts fish from the biome its resources came from; better bait matches fish tier. Fishing location no longer determines the base catch chance, though spots still favour more bites or more treasure/trash. |
| NPCs and pets | Fixes for inhabitants getting stuck around player-built bases. |
| Voice acting | Lore notes, letters and books are voiced in English, German and Mandarin Chinese, with playback controls that let you queue entries into a playlist. Main crafting survivors and major quest-givers are voiced in those languages too. |
| Visuals | A new brick-rendering method shows more detail in distant terrain and voxel buildings, including player-built structures. Biomes get distinct lighting, atmosphere and moisture settings, and HDR is supported on compatible displays. |
| Early game | New chests plus revised roads and camps make early exploration more rewarding and easier to follow, and crafting recipes were adjusted to cut down on resource grinding. |
| Performance | Rendering, lighting, shadows and distant scenery were reworked alongside reduced memory use, with attention to lower- and mid-range PCs. |
The 1.0 changelog: what actually changed
Keen Games published the complete 1.0.0.0 changelog alongside the release trailer. Below are the changes that affect how you play, with the numbers where Keen gave them.
Loot, chests and drops
| Change | Detail |
|---|---|
| Legendary drop rate | Chance for legendary items increased by +5% for all chests. |
| Wooden chests | Now have a chance to contain a weapon or armour piece at silver-chest level. |
| Silver chests | Common-tier loot has been removed from silver chest loot lists. |
| Enemy drops | Enemies no longer drop water pouches, and now have a chance to drop rings. |
| Hourglass capsules | Appear in many more places, add about 70% more time in the Shroud when used, and now also drop from large Fell foes. |
| Hollow Halls | Ectoplasm now also drops from defeated hounds and Hollow melee fighters; end-room chest costs cut by 25%. |
| Vultures | Fell Vultures drop more Enshrouded Vulture Talons. |
The Albaneve Summits boss has been reworked
The endgame boss got the largest single rework in 1.0. Keen cut its health substantially and rebuilt the fight around melee play:
- New exhausted phase โ the boss stands on the walkable area and lets melee-focused players get in close for heavy hits before normal attacks resume.
- Stun rework โ parrying its projectiles back is still strong, but stun arrows and shock damage now work significantly better.
- Back weak point now counts as a weak point for all weapons (arrows only before).
- Wider arena, grapple-hook anchors to climb back after being thrown off, and the Shroud covering the lair lowered below the walkable area.
- Boss vultures now drop crafting resources that replenish stun arrows and lightning spells.
Separately, all enemies now recover health over time when you leave the combat area instead of resetting instantly โ so after a party wipe you can re-engage a boss before it is fully healed and keep the progress you made.
Fishing has been rebuilt
| Change | Detail |
|---|---|
| Where fish spawn | Every fish can now be caught in every body of water โ it is a matter of the right bait and a rod that can handle higher-tier fish. |
| Bait matching | Each bait primarily attracts fish of the same tier, so you can target specific fish. Improved bait guarantees that a bite is the bait's own tier. |
| Rarity | Chances for rare and epic fish increased; trash and treasure rates rebalanced with more loot in the treasure pool. |
Crafting, costs and grind
| Change | Detail |
|---|---|
| Recipe costs | Large balancing pass across crafting: less Shroud Adhesive for the glider, fewer parts per resource at the Alchemical Base, and armour-set recipes now need fewer resources overall and cost more similarly between sets. |
| Ectoplasm | Reduced in spell-charge and arrow recipes, and in Hollow Hall furniture recipes. |
| Flame levels 6โ9 | Fewer resources; Electric Organs and Poison Stings replaced with more common materials. |
| Production | Factory and cooking-station recipes reworked โ more generous output, shorter production times. Farm animals produce goods significantly faster, and plant growth times are lower overall. |
| Armour unlocks | Armour sets now unlock automatically with each Flame upgrade instead of arbitrary unlock criteria, so you cannot miss a tier. |
| Ranger sets | Revelwood (tier 2) and Nomad Highlands (tier 3) each gain a craftable ranged set and a craftable dagger set; Marksman and Sharpshooter became loot items. |
| Dagger upgrades | Assassin, Frostbite Slasher and Blood Feather now upgrade melee critical hit chance instead of sneak-attack damage. |
| Legendary gear | Legendary items need legendary runes one upgrade step later. |
New items, skills and mechanics
| Addition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Puke Potion | New personal-crafting recipe that removes any ongoing food buffs. |
| Archaic lockpicks | Higher-tier locked chests and doors need a new lockpick set, starting in Cinder's Cradle. |
| Gold coins | Added to loot chests across Embervale; used at Mei-Yin Chen to craft vanity items. |
| Wisp of Light | Duration raised from 5 minutes to 10 minutes. |
| Gem forge | A gem forge station can now be placed in your base in the late game. |
| Airborne Architect | New skill at the centre of the tree that enables free-flying building. |
| Loot pickup | Holding the interaction button collects all scattered loot nearby; a new setting does it automatically. |
| Push back the Shroud | Unlocking Flame level 11 lets flame altars push the Shroud back (lowerable in world settings). Flame altars cap at 16. |
| Beds | Fast travel is now possible while sleeping in a bed. |
| Anvils | Anvils in enemy camps now repair equipped shields and wards. |
| Ectoplasm Block | Now a tier 2 building material. |
Save data
Enshrouded uses a new save format in 1.0 with smaller files and a simpler structure. The first time you load 1.0 with a save made on version 0.8 or earlier, the game backs it up first and then migrates it automatically โ you are not forced into a new character. In the character and world menus you can now choose between a local save folder and the Steam cloud folder, so check the right tab if a save seems to be missing.
Cinder's Cradle: the new 1.0 biome
Cinder's Cradle opens the northern edge of Embervale, the region players could previously only see from a distance. It contains two contrasting areas: a lava-scarred wasteland on the ground and floating islands raised by the Ancients above it, with Shroud tendrils stretching between them. It is the largest single content addition in 1.0, and the reason both the level and gear caps rise.
- 12 Shroud Roots in Cinder's Cradle itself, plus 6 more in newly accessible outskirts of other biomes.
- Two new Hollow Halls โ one in the Albaneve Summits, one in the Veilwater Basin.
- A new faction with 14 enemy types, part of the 37 new enemy types and variants in 1.0.
- Story finale โ main quests return you to earlier regions, including previously inaccessible structures.
Practical implication: the new caps (level 50, gear 55) exist because Cinder's Cradle is tuned above the old endgame. Do not go straight there. Re-spend your skill points, upgrade your gear, and enter with a build that handles groups โ the new faction fields more enemies than anything in the base game.
Saves, price and Early Access owners
- Your save is safe. Early Access saves remain usable in 1.0; they convert to the updated save format when you move to the full release.
- Restarting is optional. You are not forced into a new character.
- No re-purchase on PC. If you already own the Early Access version, you get 1.0.
- Back up before you patch if you run your own server, and make sure everyone updates to the same version.
Launch day checklist
- Back up your world before the update lands, especially on a private server.
- Re-spend your skill points at your base before you go anywhere โ the tree resets.
- Check your aim assist setting. New ranged aim assist options are on by default for controllers and off for mouse and keyboard.
- Pick up new spells and try one summon to see whether a summoner build appeals before committing points.
- Read the patch notes for final numbers โ launched values can differ from the pre-release announcements.
